General Rules and Regulations of FallFling
Note: Some of the rules below are also found in the What to
Expect and Site Info. While those other two links will give you
a lot more info, the rules below are the things that, if broken, will at the very least earn you a
note
beside your name describing what you did in the database forevermore, and at the very worst, get
you removed from the site by the police (yep, it's happened before). So please read them VERY
carefully!
- FallFling is held at Dragon Hills, which is PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Please respect any and
all rules put forth by the owners.
- Any infraction of mundane law, i.e., theft, threat to or endangerment of
others, etc., are grounds for immediate expulsion from the festival, and possible arrest, if
appropriate. People's tents, campers, and vehicles are their personal property and temporary
living abode; do not enter them without permission.
- Illegal substances are absolutely forbidden, by any and all people!! This is
very important if you can't abstain for the weekend, please stay home. We run the risk of losing
the site and our freedoms otherwise. Don't use drugs at the festival; don't even bring them.
- Underage drinking, gross drunken behavior, and unwanted sexual attention (harassment)
will not be tolerated.
- TAKE OUT YOUR OWN TRASH: We have moved to a Leave-No-Trace (LNT) ethic for
Moondance and FallFling. This essentially means that YOU are responsible for removing any
and all trash that you bring or generate while there (right, that means no trash trolls driving
around in their truck to pick up your trash). The dumpster down the road is closed to anyone
without Carroll County tags, so plan on taking your trash all the way home with you. If you'd
like to read up on LNT, here are some good LNT principles & ideas as they apply to Burning
Man specifically: http://www.burningman.com/ environment/resources/lnt.html. Prepare ahead
of time; remove all excess packaging from things, bring things in large containers rather than
several small ones, prepackage your food before you leave home, plan to recycle some of your
trash (glass, cans) later, check your camp and surrounding areas for MOOP (Matter Out of
Place) very carefully before you leave.
- DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED at Dragon Hills (Service animals are always welcome, and
with proof of certification, will be admitted at no charge). A very few exceptions, *WITH
PRIOR PERMISSION*, will be made for
dogs who are special needs who absolutely cannot stay by themselves, with friends, or in a
kennel, but all dogs will be charged an admission fee, must have proof
of rabies and general vaccinations, and must be registered when their person registers. If you
show up at the gate with an unregistered dog, you will be asked to take the dog off-site for the
duration of the festival. All
permitted dogs
must be kept on a leash or otherwise contained at
all times, quiet (no barking), and under control at all times (no jumping on people, no stealing
food). Dogs who fight, bark overly much, steal food, or pee on tents and merchants' items will
not be invited back. Be responsible, so that you and your dog will be invited to return.
- All cars must STOP at the registration booth upon entering the site, and again every
single time you re-enter the site. There will be no more "Registered FallFling
Participants" passes given out, so you must stop to have every person in your car checked in
(again). Absolutely NO ONE will be permitted to enter the site for any length of time whatsoever
without having properly registered and paid. Anyone caught doing so will be immediately
escorted from the site. If you are bringing something to someone already on-site, they will need
to meet you at the registration booth. If someone is paying for you later, you cannot enter until
your admission is paid by them. This rule is *not* negotiable.
- Wristbands: Each and every adult, child (except for non-mobile babies), and properly
registered dog will get a wristband which must be worn so that it is visible at all times. You will
receive ONE wristband only; if yours breaks, you can come to Security Headquarters to
have it repaired. If you lose your wristband, you will have to pay full admission fee ($60) again
to be allowed to remain on-site. Again, this rule is *not* negotiable.
- Radical Self-Reliance: This means taking responsibility for yourself and the people around
you. Come prepared. This is not an event where all the home comforts are supplied, or even
available. You are expected to bring everything you think you will need: clothing, food, water,
shelter, toiletries, first aid, toilet paper, etc. You *must* take home your own trash. You must
clean up after yourself *everywhere* on site, and be sure your camp and surroundings are free of
MOOP. There is no one there to clean up behind you or do things for you.
- FallFling is a private function, and is off-limits to media personnel acting in a
professional capacity.
- Anyone taking photos or video must obtain permission from all recognizable subjects
*prior* to filming. Hidden cameras or other media devices are prohibited.
- FallFling is clothing optional; however, those working the registration booth MUST
keep
their clothes on, due to emergency personnel or other outsiders coming to the gate.
- Do NOT leave camp fires unattended. Bring your own firewood. All campfires must be
contained and off the ground (no rocks).
- No one is required to attend our ceremonies or classes, but please respect
the rights of those who choose to do so; try to keep your noise, music and conversation to a
minimum during these times if you are close by.
- The road from the Kitchen to the Stage must be kept clear at all times, and a road all the
way through the Vendor area in front of the Stage, and following the tree line up the hill, must be
kept open all weekend, so cars can drive through without having to cross a lollybump. By order
of the fire marshal, all roadways must be kept completely clear all weekend, so that large
emergency vehicles can drive through. The whole festival can be shut down if this rule is not
followed!
- In the Weyr and main area (Stage and merchant area and on along the tree line and
terraces), ALL cars must be moved to the parking area after unloading. The only exceptions are a
few merchants who have prior permission to park at their booths. Campers at the top of the hill
and quiet area may keep their cars near their camp, as long as all roadways are kept completely
clear (think huge fire trucks coming through). Due to uneven terrain, all RVs and large campers
should be parked no further down than the Great Hall, except for merchants who vend out of
their camper/RV. Small campers may set up in a flat camping area. RVs must run silently in
self-contained mode (no generators!!). There are a *very few* hookups at the Great Hall for RVs
and campers for electricity *only* (no water or sewage); I don't know if the system will handle
air conditioning. Apart from the limited hookups at the Great Hall, the only people allowed to
plug into electricity anywhere on-site are vendors who have paid for it.
- If you must park your car temporarily somewhere, please pull well off to the side. Lock
your valuables in your trunk; we cannot be responsible for losses. Due to safety concerns, no
cars are allowed to drive through the merchant area and in front of the stage after 6:00 pm
on Friday and Saturday evenings or during daytime music performances!
- The propane gas provided for the hot showers is not infinite; please be considerate with
your usage and keep your showers SHORT. Hot water may be cut off at midnight. The kitchen is
off-limits to participants, however there are sinks outside the kitchen for
dishwashing filling water containers.
- Due to agreements with the neighbors and sheriff, all drumming must be restricted to the
main drum circle, as sound tends to carry; no drumming past 10:00 on Thursday night. Please be
considerate with boom boxes, especially at night.
- Firearms are not allowed at Dragon Hills during the festival.
- Children under the age of 18 must be under adult supervision at all times.
- Finally, please sign up for at least one volunteer job when you arrive.
