FallFling

The Site

Note: The info below contains more details about the physical nature of the site, and what to expect there, plus some guidelines. You'll notice that some (but not all) of the info below is also found in the Rules and the What to Expect - let's just say I believe in redundancy. I figure if you read particularly important item two or three times, maybe you'll remember it! :)

REMEMBER: PLEASE PRE-REGISTER!! Directions will only be sent to those who pre-register. You may pay at the gate, but please let us know you'll be there. Also, we need to know how many to plan for, so we can have enough portapotties.

About the site:

The festival will be at Roxanna, near Auburn, Alabama. It is a mostly primitive camping site. The site has lots of camping space, but limited parking space. Carpooling is a great idea.

There are hot showers, running water, and electricity (but only at the top of the hill) at Roxanna. Generators are allowed, but must be reasonably quiet (or baffled to hide the noise) and non-stinky.

In most areas, and assuming there's no burn ban in place, you may have a personal campfire (but not on the rocks or in the woods), but all fires that are in grassy, mowable areas must be contained and off the ground; where the site owner has to mow with a bushhog, rocks, charcoal, bottle caps, and other trash tends to get left behind; these items can damage the bushhog blades ($$$ to repair), and injure or even kill the mower operator. For campfires, please bring your own firewood. Also, please practice common sense with your fires, and don't build a huge roaring fire and then leave it unattended.

The rocks here support a very fragile eco-system. Please respect this by not driving on them, and by stepping lightly, if at all, on the lichens and other plants on the rocks. Please don't carry glass onto the rocks; there's enough there already! Do not cross the barbed wire fences these are the property boundaries. Be careful walking barefoot there's glass on the rocks, briars on the roads, and prickly pear everywhere.

Roxanna is very private, so the festival is clothing optional.

If you don't like to camp, there are reasonably priced hotels within 30 miles, in nearby Auburn and Opelika. Do a Google search for hotels in Auburn & Opelika, AL, and you'll find plenty.

Pets and service animals are allowed, but must have proof of all current vaccines (bring paper from your vet). Animals (especially dogs, and including service animals) must be well- behaved, quiet (no barking) and under physical control at all times (this means leashed or crated, not running loose or under verbal command, so dogs aren't attacking each other, jumping on people, or stealing food). You must clean up after your pet, so that "doggie bombs" are not left behind for others to step in. The fee for pets is $30; service animals are always free, but must meet above guidelines.

We follow a Leave-No-Trace (LNT) ethic at Moondance and FallFling. This essentially means that YOU are responsible for removing any and all trash that you bring or generate while there. If you'd like to read up on LNT, here are some good LNT principles & ideas as they apply to Burning Man specifically: http://www.burningman.co m/environment/reso urces/lnt.html. Please don't litter or pollute the site in any way, and do clean up after yourself, especially when you pack to go home. DO NOT drop cigarette butts, bottle caps, or other MOOP (matter out of place) on the ground.

There is a certain area set aside for parking at Roxanna; please use it. Cars parked by tents take up valuable camping space.

All camping areas are public domain and are up for grabs, but please ASK before you set up next to someone else, in case they have that area set aside for their group.

Dead trees: There are several dead pine trees on-site. We're working on cutting these down, but be aware of them - take care when parking and placing your tent.

Of course, the usual legal stuff applies: Firearms are not allowed at Roxanna during the festival; any infraction of mundane law, i.e., theft, threat to or endangerment of others, etc., are grounds for immediate expulsion from the festival; underage drinking, gross drunken behavior, and unwanted sexual attention (harassment) will not be tolerated; also, illegal substances are absolutely forbidden, by any and all people!! This last one is very important if you can't abstain for the weekend, please stay home. We run the risk of losing the site and our freedoms otherwise. Don't use drugs at the festival; don't even bring them.
