1) PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR A
DAY-TRIP PRICE!
There is NO day-trip price to Moondance. The reason
for this is that I have no way of controlling or knowing who is coming and going on any
particular day, and I
have to pay for *every* person on site, regardless of how many days they stay. I know most
people are honest, but I have had several folks claim they're "only staying that evening" and then
I saw them running around the next day.
2) PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR
REDUCED ADMISSION!
Beyond the jobs listed below, please do not ask for
discounted admission. Again, I get
charged by the site for every person who shows up, whether they pay the full price or have free
admission. The cost of the site has increased over the years, and I also have to figure in the cost
of portapotties and other supplies for *everyone* who shows up.
3) PLAN AHEAD AND PAY
AHEAD!
Plan ahead and pay ahead. The cost, if you pay before
March 1, is $30. That's for 5 days of
camping, workshops, rituals, etc. That's $6.00 a day. That's darn cheap! True, if you wait till
later, you'll pay more. (The price is cheaper in the beginning to encourage more folks to pay
early, so I'll actually have some $$ to pay for printing, postage, site deposit, and other up-front
expenses, which usually total about $1000. The price gets steeper to discourage people from
waiting till the last minute!) And if you find you can't make it, you can get a refund (see Refund
Policy below).
Pre-Payment: To receive the current (cheap) price, all registrations
must be accompanied by payment. Pre-payment is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED (it helps me to
pay for expenses, postage, printing, site fee deposit, toilet paper, etc.).
Gate Payments: All payments at the gate MUST BE CASH OR MONEY
ORDER, and will be the full price of $60, regardless of when you register! NO CHECKS AT
THE GATE!
Deadlines: Please register by May 20, 2011 (if by mail) or May 24 (if
by
PayPal), so
I have time to send you the Confirmation Flyer and add you to the gate list. To reiterate: If you
plan to pay at the gate, you MUST email me your registration info (full name, address, phone,
email, medical problems, kids attending, etc.) ahead of time, so I can place you on the gate
list.
Refund Policy: If you can't make it to Moondance, you may call or email to
request a refund (they won't be issued automatically). Refunds will be given in full until May 13,
at a 50% rate until the Tuesday night before the festival (May 24); no refunds (or switching your
admission to a later festival) if I'm notified after that time or if you just don't show up. If you
decide to send someone else in your place, please let me know beforehand, so I can add them to
the gate list and remove your name.
There are TEN (10) volunteer jobs that come with discounted admission, and FOUR (4) staff jobs that come with free admission. These jobs are listed below, and are BY APPLICATION ONLY, not "first-come-first-served." If you have been granted a job in the past and did not do your job well (or even worse, didn't show up at all), you are not eligible for any other volunteer jobs at any point in the future. On the other hand, if you've done one of these jobs in the past and done it well, you stand a good chance of being granted one again. We will choose applicants on the basis of 1) dependability, 2) skills, and 2) financial need. (Note: If you are vending, and therefore profiting from the festival, you do not qualify for discounted admission.) On all jobs, you must make your commitment to the job well ahead of time, be on-site during the entire time required for your job, stay in touch with us so we know we can count on you, and above all, show up and do your job and be where we can find you during the festival.
To apply for any of these positions, please fill out the Volunteer Application Form.
(If you are applying for a volunteer job, you should still fill out the Registration Form just so we'll have all your information.)
(1) Kid's Activities (1 person, $20 admission): The Kid's Activities person will run kid's activities at the Kitchen (can move to other locations after meeting there) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons from 1:00-2:00 pm each day. This person should also run a kid's workshop at other times during the weekend, and possibly organize childcare on Friday, Saturday & Sunday while workshops are in session, or while ritual is in progress. For the Kid's Activities hours and kid's workshops, this person will need to come up with games (bubbles, scavenger hunt, etc) and fun stuff to do (make fairy wands, practice drumming, etc.), and also organizing other folks to help out. The Kid's Activities person is responsible for all materials, so please plan for free or cheap activities or games. HOURS REQUIRED: This job entails about 5 hours of work during the festival. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The person who is approved for this job MUST arrive by noon on Friday, and stay through Sunday afternoon.
(2) Herald/Parking (3 people, $15 admission each): While we have heralds in two-hour shifts during the festival, it's nice to have a couple of "lead heralds" who are in constant contact with the staff, who can make spur-of-the-moment announcements. These people will also act as fill-in for parking patrol as needed, take care of odd jobs, and just generally be "minions" (unless someone volunteers for the "Minion/Potty Patrol/Linda's Clone" job #4). HOURS REQUIRED: This job entails about 8 hours of work during the festival. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The people who are approved for this job MUST arrive by Thursday afternoon, and stay through noon on Monday.
(3) Gate Crew: (6 people, $15 admission each) We need a few good, trustworthy, reliable, self-motivating people to act as gate crew during the weekend. While we will still have attendees signing up for regular 2-hour shifts, the Gate Crew will staff the gate during peak hours Friday and Saturday to help with the influx (shift lengths to be determined), and be available at a moment's notice to take over during the late night/early morning hours when regular volunteers don't show up. HOURS REQUIRED: This job entails about 8 hours of work during the festival. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The people who are approved for this job MUST arrive by Thursday afternoon, and stay through midnight Sunday (when the gate closes).
(4) Minion/Potty Patrol/Linda's Clone: (1 person, free admission) We need someone to act as a minion/clone to do whatever needs doing at the time. This includes keeping the potties stocked with toilet paper; running errands; helping out with heralding, parking, and gate if and as needed; cleaning; and more. You'll need to be in touch with a radio (we'll provide). NOTE: I prefer this to be someone I already know and trust. HOURS REQUIRED: Hours are reasonable (no overnight shifts), and this won't be continuous work, but rather as-needed work. However, this is a staff job, with free admission, so you will earn your pay! :) ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The person approved for this job MUST arrive by Thursday afternoon, and stay through noon on Monday.
(5) Security: (1-2 people, free admission) We need one-two people (male or female) to act as security during the festival. This person must be able to handle confrontations calmly and in a non-emotional manner, and be able to defuse a situation rather than escalate it. Physical strength is not a requirement, but a calm, level head is. All security staff must be available, awake, and sober at all times while on shift. Jay Lynch is head security, and will handle all shift scheduling. HOURS REQUIRED: This is a staff job, and requires more work and more responsibility than typical volunteer jobs. At least one overnight shift is entailed. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The people who are approved for this job MUST arrive by Thursday afternoon, and stay through noon on Monday.
(6) Clean-Up Crew/Leave No Trace: (1-2 people, free admission) We need someone to act as clean-up crew/LNT patrol on Monday, and who can return to the site on Tuesday, as the local dumpsters are closed on Memorial Day. This job will consist of educating and reminding people about LNT during the weekend (be creative), doing LNT sweeps throughout the weekend, and thoroughly checking the site for MOOP (matter out of place) and cleaning up any signs, posters, etc. after all have left in the late afternoon Monday, including all workshop areas, the drum circle, showers, and outhouses/portapotties. Any trash left behind, or staff trash, will need to be taken to the local dumpster, and therefore, this person MUST be a Carroll County resident in order to gain legal access to the dumpster (there are guards stationed there to check this). A pick-up truck or vehicle with room for trash is recommended. HOURS REQUIRED: This is a staff job, and requires more work and more responsibility than typical volunteer jobs. ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: The people who are approved for this job MUST arrive by Friday morning, and (most especially) stay late on Monday, and stay through Tuesday afternoon (or come back Tuesday morning) to haul the final loads to the dumpster. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This person must be a Carroll County resident with Carroll County tags on their vehicle.
